Radio India's Radiothon for Tsunami Asia Earthquake Relief

Like so many others around the world, we were devastated by the news of this colossal tragedy. We knew right away that we had to do something to get involved so we got together as many staff and volunteers as possible and started our Radiothon campaign on January 2nd and 3rd, 2005.Our Radiothon was originally scheduled for 12 hours, but we had such a good response from our listeners that we went on for 28 hours. Our goal was $250,000, but pledges exceeded our goal within 8 hours, and total pledges came to $650,000!Over 4,000 people walked into our Radio Station to give donations and over 3,000 pledges were made over the phone - one lady giving everything from her pension except $100 for her food. An 8-year old walked in with her piggy bank and donated $6. The largest pledge came from one individual at $10,000. The collection was turned over to the Canadian Red Cross on January 5th, 2005. Subsequent collections continue to be turned over to date. We are honored by the support and the trust of the community, and we thank the generous Radio India listeners who allowed us to have such a successful Radiothon.
